DHAKA: The Earth’s temperature keeps on rising due to global warming.
The UN Climate Summit will be held in New York on September 23 with world leaders to discuss and debate climate action policies.
With this occasion in mind, Works For Green Bangladesh and Mastul Foundation organized a discussion at Robindro Shorobor followed by an innovative demonstration on Dhanmondi lake at 9:30 am Friday.
Various environmental organizations, students from schools and colleges, and other concerned citizens took part in the event.
The participants voiced strong demand to the global leaders to take immediate action to address the climate change and its many harmful impacts.
Shobujpata’s Chairman Shahed Alam said that Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change.
He emphasized the need for planned urbanization to address the challenges that will be faced by coastal communities, warning that climate-induced, unplanned migration will threaten our country’s rivers and transportation systems.
Founder of Poriborton Chai Fida Hoque said Bangladesh is being affected by climate change very fast. A natural disaster of large scale can already put most of the country under water.
Mohi U Khan Mamun, founder of Works for Green Bangladesh, said while the challenges faced in the southern belt due to climate change cannot be underestimated, the decision-makers cannot ignore the effects on other parts of the country as well. It is the responsibility of youth to work for environmental sustainability.
Youth leader in climate change Risalat Khan said that it is our duty to educate ourselves on what is happening due to climate change and raise the overall awareness.
Mahbub Alam of WBB Trust said that we have to promote walking and cycling in favor of cars so that we can reduce our carbon footprint.
Mastul Foundation’s Reaz Rahman Asif said, our young generation will someday save the country from pollution.
WBB Trust, Achol, Shobujpata, NDF, Poriborton Chai and other environmental organizations joined this event with Mastul Foundation and Works for Green Bangladesh.
