DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday started quizzing nine police officials, including Khilgaon Zone Assistant Commissioner Iqbal Hossain, over the emblazing gold bars seized from Rampura in city on March 13.
Jatan Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of the anti-graft body, also investigation officer of the case, started the interrogation around 11:00am.
The accused are unarmed Inspector of DMP’s detective, crime and information division M Fazlul Haque, Khilgaon zone AC M Iqbal Hossain, SI Abdul Mannan, ASI ANS Nuruzzaman, Masud Mia and Rashedul Islam, KM Mehedi Hasan, Police Constable Delwar Hossain and M Rahim.
Earlier on Wednesday, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) summoned nine police officials for interrogation.
According to the case statement, SI Manzurul and his patrol team, were on duty at Balurmath in Banasree area of the city on March 13. At that time, they chased a microbus on suspicion and later found the vehicle abandoned. They brought the vehicle to the police station and filed a General Dairy.
On March 16, two individuals named Samir Biswas and Jahid Hossain came to the police station for the vehicle.
Later, police detained them and detected them to be professional gold smugglers. They transported 235 gold bars through the microbus, police said.
However, police could only recover 70 gold bars from the abandoned vehicle. On March 18, a case was filed in this regard with Rampura police station.
On interrogation by DB men, the detainees confessed to them that there had been 235 gold bars in the vehicle. Then the detectives interrogated SI Manzurul and his patrol team who confessed to them that they had misappropriated the gold bars.
Later, the detectives recovered 149 of the missing gold bars from different parts of the city following the disclosure of the detained policemen of the spots where they kept hidden the gold bars.
