DHAKA: The militants’ mission was to blast remote-controlled bombs at their target far from 500 yards.
They have already made a device, which can hit the target far from 200 yards.
Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of police Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam made the disclosure in a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre on Thursday noon.
Earlier on Wednesday, the DB personnel arrested five alleged militants from Rampura and Segunbagicha area.
Bomb specialist Khairul Islam, 24, Shafiqul Islam alias Safi and Mohammad Ahsan Ullah were arrested from city’s Rampura area.
The two other, Asif Adnan, 26, and Fazle Elahi Tanzi of Ansarullah Bangla Team, were arrested from Segunbagicha area of Ramna Thana.
The elite forces also seized explosives, circuit used for bomb making, remote control and manual from their possession.
The Joint Commissioner said the arrestees were inspired by the video tape of banned outfit Al al-Qaida leader Zawahiri.
They planned to begin jihad in Afghanistan and Myanmar’s Arakan after taking experience from Iraq and Syria.
After interrogation, the arrestees gave the information which is being cross-examined now.
