FARIDPUR: At least 30 people including five police personnel were injured in a clash among the villagers of two unions at Bhanga upazila of the district on Sunday.
Sources said that the residents of Gherua union and Chumurdi union locked into a clash with local weapons centering a football match in the area leaving at least 30 people including five police personnel injured.
The injured police personnel include Sub-Inspectors of Bhanga Thana Mojibar Rahman, Dabir, Azad and constables Al-Amin and Jamal.
The injured were rushed to medical centers in Bhanga and also in Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The agitated people vandalized several shops at the Purba Sadardi village under Chumurdi union.
Police opened fire to bring the situation under control in the area.
Moreover, additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation.
Police held three people in this connection.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Alamgir Hossain visited the spot and talked to the chairmen of the unions.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Thana Nazmul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
