DHAKA: The deposition of Jalal Ahmed alias Joj Miah, accused of 21 August Grenade Attack Cases, ended on Tuesday.
He gave the statement before Justice Shahed Nur of Speedy Tribunal-1 in front of Dhaka Central Jail from 12:00-1:30pm.
Defendant’s lawyer will cross-examine him at noon.
Before that the defendant’s lawyer cross-examined Joj Miah’s sister Khorsheda Begum.
Prosecutor Akram Uddin Shaymal said earlier 103 people, including Joj Miah’s mother and sister, out of 491 gave their statements.
In 2005, ‘Joj Miah drama’ was created after arresting him on accusation of 21 August grenade attack.
Later in 2008, the members of CID submitted the charge-sheet removing Joj Miah’s name and he was released in 2009.
CID Special Police Superintendent later submitted a supplementary charge-sheet accusing 52 people. Here, Joj Miah’s mother and sister were made witnesses.
On August 21, 2004, a grisly grenade attack on an Awami League rally left 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, wife of late President Zillur Rahman, dead and over 300 others injured.
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina survived the attack.
Following the incident, Motijheel police filed the two cases — one for the killing and the other for explosion.
