GOALANDA, RAJBARI: Thousands of home-bound people of the country’s southern region are facing immense sufferings as an eight-kilometer long tailback appeared on highways on the both sides of Daulatdia-Aricha ferry crossing point on the river Padma.
Heavy pressure of passenger coaches carrying home goers during Eid and puja and Dhaka-bound cattle-loaded trucks caused the tailback as ferry services failed to transport the vehicles properly on the river.
Passenger vehicles on Aricha-side are being forced to use alternative routes to reach the ferry jetty.
A total of 17 ferries, however, are plying on the river to transport the vehicles there, said Shafiqul Islam, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at Daulatdia office.
