DHAKA: A key accused criminal of BDR mutiny and Deputy Assistant Director of Bangladesh Rifles Abdur Rahim, 54, passed away in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday night while undergoing treatment.

He was taken to PG Hospital’s prison cell from Central Jail Hospital in the evening. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his health condition deteriorated at 8:45 pm. Rahim died from heart attack in DMCH at around 10:00pm, sources said.

Senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail Touhidul Islam confirmed Abdur Rahim’s death.

DAD Abdur Rahman played the role of a main coordinator during BDR massacre at its headquarter on February 25-26, 2009. He was the second-in- command of  DAD Touhidul Islam, the leader of the mutineers.

Rahim was arrested soon after the mutiny and was taken to remand several times. He was an accused of BDR massacre and explosive act case.
