4 cops among 6 hurt in ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: Six people, including four policemen, were injured in a gunfight between lawmen and a robber gang in Bancha Mianr Ghona area of the district city early Saturday.

The injured policemen were Sub-Inspector Shah Alam and constables Ajoy Barua, Farid, and Bangshi of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Thana while the others are Roksana, 17, of the area and Monir Mina, a member of the robber gang.

All injured were undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital but Monir who was admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

Sadar Thana Officer-In-Charge Mahfuzur Rahman said, a robber gang stormed into the house of one Serajul Islam and fired gunshots that left Roksana injured.

Hearing the gunshots, locals informed police. Upon lawmen’s arrival on the spot, robbers traded more gunshots with police, leaving four policemen and a robber injured.

Police recovered a home-made pistol from the spot.

Drives are underway to nab the other members of the gang.
