TANGAIL: Stalkers torched a house pouring petrol and burnt a woman and her three daughters live at Dakkhin Sohagpara village under Mirzapur upazila of the district early Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Hasna Begum, 30, wife of expatriate Mojibur Rahman of the village, and her three daughters, Manira, 14, Mim, 6, and Moly, 4.
Police detained three people including a woman for their alleged involvement in the killing. Our Tangail Correspondent reported from the spot.
Victims’ relatives and neighbors told banglanews that Jahangir, son of Bahar Uddin of nearby house, had long been stalking Manira by proposing to her; several village-meeting had been held to settle the matter.
Several days ago, Jahangir and his cohorts attacked Manira’s house. Her family lodged a general diary (GD) at Mirzapur Thana follwing the attacked.
Angered on GD filing, Jahangir and his associates set fire to the tin-shed house of Manira’s, pouring petrol through windows, the relatives added.
Sensing the fire, neighbors rushed in and informed the fire fighter after failed attempts to douse the flame. Fire fighters brought the fire under control after frantic efforts of half-and-quarter hour and recovered burnt-bodies of the mother and three daughters breaking the door.
Police nabbed three people on suspicion. They were Jahangir’s aunty, a friend of Jahangir, and a van driver, who carried petrol on his vehicle.
Jahangir and his family members went on hiding since the killing.
Mirzapur Thana Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) M Nasir confirmed the matter to banglanews.
The bodies were sent to the district’s Kumudini Hospital for post mortem examinations and police was processing to file a case in this connection, said the ASI.
