PM mourns Bhasha Matin’s death

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the demise of Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin, widely honored as ‘Bhasha Matin’, who passed away on Wednesday morning.

The premier, in a condolence message, said that country’s foundation was set up through the language movement where Matin also took part and his death is the closing of a live history.

The people of Bangladesh would remember Matin’s lifelong contribution, she added.

The PM’s press wing issued a press release on the matter.

The premier prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Earlier, Abdul Matin died on Wednesday morning at city’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Matin’s wife Gul Badan Nesa Manika said that Abdul Matin, 88, passed away around 9:00am.

‘Bhasha Matin’ had been undergoing treatment for last couple of days there for old age complications.
