GAZIPUR: Three minors of a family drowned in Gazaria-Kanchanpur area under Kaliakoir upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Rishita Moni Das, 8, daughter of Swapan Das, Shimla Moni Das, 10, daughter of Bikash Chandra Das and Swarna Moni Das, 7, daughter of Indra Chandra Das.

Local sources said that five children including the trio were playing on a boat in Bhati marsh when the boat got stuck with water hyacinth and sank in the morning.

However, two of them managed to swim ashore but three went missing.

Locals rescued the three after one hour frantic search and rushed them to Kaliakoir upazila health complex where on duty doctor declared them dead around 1:30pm.

Sub-Inspector of Kaliakair Thana Sajib Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews.
