SATKHIRA: Two people were killed and 14 others wounded, including six with bullet injuries, in a clash between two rival groups over a shrimp enclosure in Golakhali-Laxmikhali area in Shyamnagar upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Aijul Morol, 50 and Noor Nabi Bashar, 27 of the area.
Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups of villagers over the ownership of a shrimp farm.
The both groups locked into a clash when they opened fire and blasted crude bombs in the area around 2:00pm, leaving Aijul dead on the spot and 15 others injured critically.
The injured were rushed to Upazila Health Complex where Bashar succumbed to his injuries at 6:15pm.
Confirming the matter to banglanews Officer-in-Charge of Shyamnagar Police Station Aminul Islam said that the situation was brought under their control and additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incidents.
