DHAKA: The severe cyclonic storm (ecp 990 hpa) “hud hud” over east central bay & adjoining west central bay moved slightly west-northwestwards, now lies over west central bay & adjoining east central bay.
The storm was centred at 12 noon Friday ( 10 October 2014) about 990 kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 920 kms south-southwest of Cox’s bazar port, 910 kms south of Mongla port and 895 kms south of Payra port (near lat 14.5°n and long 87.4°e).
It is likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and move in a west-northwesterly direction, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the storm centre is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain high.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
In its riverport warning, the Met office said, in association with rain or thunder showers temporary east or south easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong & Cox’s bazar wherein river ports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.
