DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that 144 accident prone turnings of the highways across the country will be widened to avert road accidents.
He also said that some Tk 165-crore has been allotted to implement the project.
He came up with the assertion to the journalists while he came to visit the road development site at city’s Soarighat area on Wednesday noon.
Obaidul Quader told media that many people think that speed breakers can minimize road mishaps but it’s a wrong concept.
Some 144 risky turning points on roads and highways across the country will be widened and it will minimize the accidents, he added.
Earlier, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) published a report on accident prone turnings and identified 209 spots.
After that the government has taken initiative to work on the project.
However, after visiting the Gabtali-Soarighat road development site, the minister said that 80 percent construction works of the project have already been complete.
The road will be inaugurated in November, he hoped.
