DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking permission to keep the dead body of BRAC University Professor Piash Karim on Central Shaheed Minar premises so that people can pay tribute to him.

Lawyer Dr Mohammad Yunus Ali Akanda filed the writ petition on Thursday afternoon.

In the writ, he urged the court to give order to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor and Home Affairs Minister to take Piash Karim’s dead body at the Shaheed Minar.

Ali Akanda said, according to the section 27 and 31 of the constitution all citizens are equal in the eye of law and entitled to equal protection of law.

So, the educator Piash Karim’s body can be kept at the Shaheed Minar.

He filed the writ petition as the Dhaka University authorities denied the request to keep the educator’s body at the Central Shaheed Minar.
