I find Russell in new generation: PM

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said she found her beloved younger brother Sheikh Russell among the new generation.

The premier was addressing a program on the occasion of 50th birth anniversary of Russell, youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city.

Hasina said Bangladesh will stand with its heads high in the world as a happy and prosperous country with the awareness of the 1971 Liberation War. Her government is tirelessly working with the goal of building a Golden Bangla, she added.

She said that the new generations had been taught the falsified history, the country had been taking down track; they stopped all those things after assuming power.

The children are now learning the real history, they (government) have taken all initiatives so that a child can be grown up properly, she added.

Hasina urged the kids, who were audiences at the functions, to become competent person with the spirit of War of Independence in 1971 to build the country as Golden Bangla.

Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad organized the function where the premier distributed prizes among winners of various competitions, including chess, paintings and others.

Minor boy Russell along with Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated at their Dhanmondi, Road- 32 residence on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.

Russel was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.
