Bangladesh-UAE deals to reopen job market

DHAKA: Bangladesh is going to sign deals with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to bring back confidence to the country which might warm the bilateral relations between two nations.

However, Bangladesh, in this regard, is going to sign two agreements with the UAE aimed at boosting cooperation on controlling crimes.

The two deals -- Security Cooperation and Transfer of convicted Prisoners – have already been okayed at cabinet’s regular meeting.

The deals will be penned during the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the UAE.

After signing these deals, the UAE may reopen its job market to the Bangladeshi job seekers withdrawing restrictions imposed two years ago.

According to the cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hussain Bhuiyan, if the deals go through, the middle-eastern country would start recruiting Bangladeshi jobseekers soon.

The UAE had restricted issuance of visas for Bangladeshi male jobseekers in September, 2012, in connection with several migrant workers' involvement in criminal activities. Female workers were allowed to have visas.
