FROM SANGSAD SOUTH PLAZA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday categorically said proper decision and self-confident can develop the country.

“The proper decision and self-confident can progress the country. I have faced impediment for several times but the journey of the county’s democracy has remained continue,” she said.

The premier came up with the observation while addressing a reception program at South Plaza of the Parliament in the evening. 

The reception program was organized as Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Saber Hossain Chowdhury were elected Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and President of Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) respectively.

Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, congratulated them. “The credit of the victory goes to the people of the country,” she said. 

Addressing function, Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP said Bangladesh wanted to be an example as president of the organization.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “Inspiration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and good wishes of Speaker of JS and the people of my constituency made me the president of IPU.”

He added: “IUP always supports the trend of democracy. The forum postpones the membership of the countries which fail to practice democracy. The membership of Bangladesh also was suspended in 1975, 1982 and 2008.”

The MP also said, “It is a rare incident that the two members of a parliament are elected as presidents of two important parliamentary forums.”

This is matter of great respect to Bangladesh by the international community, he added.

On October 9, JS Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was elected as Chairperson to Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) for the next three years while on October 16, Ruling Awami League lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury was elected as the president of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the next three years.
