SI Anwar on 2-day fresh remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a two-day fresh remand for detained sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Anwar Hossain for his alleged involvement in shooting a businessman.

Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Humayan Kabir produced Anwar before the court with a 7-day remand plea.

On Wednesday, SI Anwar was held and Officer-in-Charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Abdul Momin was withdrawn in this connection.

On October 18, SI Anwar shot businessman Shah Alam and injured critically, identifying him a wanted criminal.

Victim Shah Alam claimed: “SI Anwar had financial dealings with my wife.”

According to Shah Alam’s statement, the police official shot him while he protested the matter.

However, Shah Alam is now under treatment in city’s National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

On the other hand, SI Anwar ignored the allegations brought against him and said there are at least 50 cases including arms, snatching and robbery charges against Shah Alam with several police stations in the city.

An investigation committee was formed immediately after the incident in this regard.
