Celebration despite dissatisfaction

DHAKA: Students of the University of Dhaka (DU) brought out a jubilant procession following the death of war crimes convict Ghulam Azam on Thursday night at their campus.

However, the Gonojagoron Moncho expressed dissatisfaction as the Jamaat-e-Islami linchpin, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city earlier around 10:15pm, who didn’t have to face the capital punishment.

Sources said that DU students, under banners of different student and social organizations, brought out the procession at TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) area around 01:30am.

On the other hand, Gonojagoron Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarkar, in an instant reaction after Ghulam Azam’s death, told banglanews that they had predict that the Jamaat former chief might to face the capital punishment following his deeds during the liberation war.

“But, it didn’t happened, and, this is our displeasure,” he added.

Mentioning the Moncho has no plans of movement following the death of Ghulam Azam, Imran H Sarkar said that their agitation will be continued as earlier demanding capital punishment of other war crimes convict and ban of Jamaat-Shibir.
