DHAKA: The namaz-e-janaza of war criminal and former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Azam was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Johr prayers on Saturday amid protest.
Brigadier General (retd) Abdullahil Aman Azmi conducted the janaza of his father at 1:50pm.
Later Aman Azmi said his father would be buried at their family graveyard in Moghbazar.
Earlier, members of his family and, leaders and activists of the party brought the body to the mosque at 1pm from his Moghbazar residence.
Six cocktails had been exploded in the morning in city’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area where war criminal Ghulam Azam’s body was taken for namaz-e-Janaza.
Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Sommilito Islami Jote, Blogger online activist and Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree declared to protest the attempt to hold Ghulam Azam's namaz-e-janaza at the national mosque.
Ghulam Azam, who had been serving 90-years' imprisonment for masterminding war crimes during the country’s war of independence in 1971, died Thursday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka at the age of 92.
