Bangladesh Caravan on Climate Change

DHAKA: A Bangladesh caravan will leave Dhaka for Nepal on November 10 with a view to addressing the key issues of climate change, gender and food sovereignty and their interrelationships.

The 4th initiative of Bangladesh Krishok Federation and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha will conclude in Nepal through India, the organizer mentioned on their website.

However, the caravan will go to India after visiting Sirajganj, Rajshahi and Kushtia districts, they added.

According to Bangladesh Krishok Federation and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha, Bangladesh is at the sharp end of the climate crisis.

They added: “Bangladesh faces disastrous floods, more intense tropical cyclones, rising sea level and increasingly high temperatures.”

In fact the whole South Asian region is highly sensitive to the consequences of climate change and faces the most destructive events, they said.

They further added that there is an ongoing and urgent need to inform and mobilize vulnerable peasant populations in order to respond to the threats of climate change, and to develop international solidarity networks concerning climate change and food sovereignty.

International Peasant Movement, La Via Campesina, with the help of many other networks and activists are supporting Bangladesh Krishok Federation and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha in the campaign.
