Wine-beer worth Tk 3 crore seized, 6 held in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: Customs officials and narcotics control department seized wine and beer worth around Tk 3 crore from a bonded warehouse in Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) here on Saturday.

The law enforcers also detained six people in this connection.

The officials with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel conducted a special drive at 5:30pm on Saturday.

RAB Chittagong Zone captain Lt Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed told banglanews that, having no permission, H Kabir and Co was selling foreign-made wine and beer from the warehouse.

On information, they recovered wine and beer and also nabbed six employees of the company, he added.

Narcotics Control Department Chittagong metro region’s Chowdhury Imrul Hasan told banglanews H Kabir and Co imported the alcoholic drinks with the permission of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).

But they were selling them in open market without the permission of narcotics control department, he added.

According to him, the seized alcoholic drinks worth Tk around 3 crore.

Two separate cases will be filed, said RAB captain Lt Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed.
