DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home from Dubai on Monday night concluding a 3-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the premier and her entourage left Dubai International Airport at 6.15pm (local time) and landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city at 12.15am (BDST).
In Dubai, UAE Social Affairs minister Marrriam Mohammad Khalfan Al Roomi, Bangladesh Ambassador to UAE Mohammad Imran along with other high officials saw off the Bangladesh premier at the airport.
During the three-day visit, Hasina held meetings with her UAE counterpart, also vice president of the country, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and crown prince, also UAE foreign minister, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
She also visited UAE sheikhdom Ras al-Khaimah (RAK) and held a meeting with RAK government head Sheikh Saud Bin Aaqr Al Quasi.
The premier also attended a reception ceremony hosted by the Bangladeshi community in Abu Dhabi.
Hasina’s visit made significant progress in different important issues including extension of Bangladesh labor market to the oil-rich gulf country.
Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) of Bangladesh and manpower recruiting agency Amala Group of the UAE inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Amal is the UAE government authorized manpower recruiting company formed through the Social Security Fund of the country.
Under the MoU, the UEA will recruit Bangladeshi female workers from 14 different professions.
The MoU has ensured the security to the female workers. The UEA has agreed to appoint a labor attaché at its Dhaka embassy in next year to work according to the MoU.
Hasina also held a meeting Dubai Port World (DP World) chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and urged the DP World authorities to conduct a feasibility study on constructing a deep seaport at Paira in Patuakhali district.
She also called on Ahmed to construct as a special economic zone, a 150-kilometer marine driveway from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar to Mirersarai in Chittagong and a modern airport in Bangladesh.
The DP World chairman responded the Bangladesh premier’s request positively and agreed to send a delegation to Bangladesh soon.
During Hasina’s Bangladesh and the UAE also signed three agreements on ‘n security cooperation, prisoner exchange and allocation of land in Dhaka for the construction of a UAE embassy.
