Birshreshtha Hamidur’s 43rd death anniversary Tuesday

DHAKA: The 43rd death anniversary of Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman is being observed at the memorial complex, built in honour of the liberation war hero at Hamidnagar in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah district on Tuesday.

Local administration, students and teachers of Hamidur Rahman Degree College and employees of Birshreshtha Sepoy Hamidur Rahman Smiriti Jadughar and Pathagar have taken all preparations to observe the day.

They will place floral wreaths at his portrait at 11:30am. Qurankhwani, doa mahfil and discussion meeting also have been arranged honouring Hamidur Rahman.

AL lawmaker Nabi Newaj from Moheshpur-Kotchandpur constituency and Moheshpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nasima Khatun among others will attend the programme.

Hamidur Rahman, while serving in the then East Bengal Regiment in 1971, joined the Liberation War. He embraced martyrdom while fighting against the Pakistani occupation forces at Dhali frontier in Srimangal area of Moulvibazar district on October 28, 1971.

On December 10, 2007, his remains were brought back to country after 36 years of Liberation War, from Tripura in India where he was buried primarily.

On December 12, 2007, Hamidur was reburied beside Birshreshtha Matiur Rahman at the reserved graveyard for eminent freedom fighters at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual’s Graveyard.

Hamidur Rahman was born in 1954 at Khordakhalishpur village (now Hamidnagar). Hamidur Rahman Smriti Jadughar and Pathagarh were established at the village in 2007.
