Gold recovery again at Shahjalal

DHAKA: Members of customs intelligence again recovered gold weighing 500 grams from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city on Tuesday night.

And, with this, 8.5 kilograms gold has been recovered in three phases on a day, sources added.

However, the authorities, at that time, also detained the bearer named Mazharul Islam in this connection.

Mainul Khan, director general of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, confirming the matter, said that Mazharul came from Kuala Lumpur by flight MH112 around 9:30pm.

“On suspicion, we challenged him while passing through the green channel and found four gold bars and a gold chain weighing 500 grams after searching his body.”

The present market value of the seized gold bars and chain is Tk 25 lakh, he added.

Earlier, customs officials seized 8 kilograms gold from Shahjalal airport in two phases and detained two persons along with a foreigner on the same day.
