DHAKA: The United Kingdom (UK) government is developing a program worth 25 million British Pound to prevent child and forced marriage in 12 developing countries including Bangladesh.
“In the next few months, it’ll start identifying priorities and actions,” said a UK government note published on their website on Tuesday.
However, the note said that the UK government is working with Canada and the Netherlands to fund this joint program with Unicef and the United Nations Population Fund.
On the other hand, UK minister for international development Lynne Featherstone, who is now in Bangladesh, met women and girls in Manikganj and Mirpur under Dhaka on the same day.
She saw how UK aid is contributing to their education and security, helping them to support their families, and supporting their communities in reducing violence against women and girls, including preventing child marriage, sources told banglanews.
Lynne Featherstone, at that time, also launched the Safe Cities for Women campaign, a joint project with ActionAid to mobilise communities and offer support to victims of violence there.
However, ‘Safe Cities for Women’, a campaign which will run in Bangladesh, Burma, Kenya and Zimbabwe, helping directly over 60,000 men and women, boys and girls worldwide and reaching a total of around 2.8 million people in Bangladesh.
