DHAKA: A Dhaka court granted bail to Farhat Quader Chowdhury, wife of convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, and son Hummam Quader Chowdhury for allegedly leaking the draft verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that sentenced him to death.

Judge KM Shamsul Alam of Dhaka Cyber Crime Tribunal Thursday passed the order after they surrendered before it and sought bail in the case.

Later, they got bail on a bond of TK 1lakh.

The court, however, denied bail to another accused Faruk Hossain, office assistant of the tribunal.

Earlier on August 28, the court submitted charge-sheet against seven people including Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s lawyer Barrister Fakhrul.

The other accused are Barrister Fakhrul Islam’s junior lawyer Mehedi Hasan, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s manager AKM Mahbubul Hasan, ICT office assistant (stenographer) Faruk Hossain and cleaner Noyon Ali.

On October 1, 2013, International Crimes Tribunal-1 awarded death penalty to BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.

But the family members of Salauddin Quader showed the draft of the verdict to the media before it passed.

Later, October 2, ICT Registrar AKM Nasir Uddin Mahmud filed a case with Shahbagh Thana.

Besides, on October 4, DB police Inspector Fazlur Rahman filed another case in this connection.

Fakhrul was arrested from his Segun Bagicha chamber in the city on November 20. The following day, the court sent him to jail after rejecting bail plea.

Fakhrul was charged under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2009 on November 21.
