DHAKA: A fire that broke out at Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation building (widely known as BSEC Bhaban) at Karwan Bazar has been brought under control, said Ali Ahmad Khan, Director General of Fire Service.
100 fire fighters of 20 units from several fire stations tamed the fire after hour’s frantic efforts, he added.
Earlier sources said the flame was originated from the store room of the daily Amar Desh, situated at 11th floor of the 12-storied building.
Moreover, the multi-storied building also housed private TV stations NTV and RTV in which channels had already halted their broadcast immediately after the devastating fire broke out.
Fire Service and Civil Defense director Major Mahbub said all the people, who were inside the building, have been evacuated safely,” he added.
Earlier on February 26 in 2007, another fire broke out at the same building which left three people killed, over 100 injured and 10 offices burnt.
