Cocktail hurled at Ganajagaran Mancha procession

CHITTAGONG: Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled cocktails aiming the procession of Ganajagaran Mancha, brought out after the death sentence of Mir Quasem Ali, in front of Cinema Palace of Kotwali Thana in the port city on Sunday.

Dr Chandan Das, Member Secretary of Ganajagaran Mancha, Chittagong, told banglanews that they brought out a procession from the Cheragimor area of the city immediately after the verdict.

Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled cocktails aiming the procession when it reached in front of Cinema Palace, he added.

Kotwali Thana Inspector (Inspector) Nejam Uddin told banglanews that a rickshaw puller named Rafiq was injured in the cocktail blast.

He was given treatment at Chittagong General Hospital, he added.

However, police could not detain anyone in this regard, reported banglanews correspondent.

Earlier in the day, Mir Quasem Ali was awarded the death sentence by three-member judge panel of ICT-2 led by Justice Obaidul Hassan for his involvement in war crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.

Justice Obaidul Hassan read out the summery (11 pages) of the 351-page judgment.
 
As per the verdict, Mir Quasem Ali was proved guilty in 10 charges out of 14.  The charge numbers are: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7,9,10, 11, 12 and 14.
