DHAKA: Immediately after Supreme Court upheld death penalty to Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman Monday, Prosecutor Ziad Al Malum said there is no scope of reviewing the verdict.
In its verdict, SC Appellate Division in the morning upheld the verdict of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 that sentenced the Jamaat to death for his crimes against humanity in 1971.
Ziad Al Malum also said it is not possible to file review petition against the verdict as per the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973.
He also expected that the country would move a step forward wiping out the tradition of lack of justice.
On the other hand, plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Tajul Islam said they will file a review petition against the death sentence of Kamaruzzaman.
Advocate Tajul also said, “Kamaruzzaman has not got justice; but we have to abide by the verdict as the Supreme Court passed it. We, however, will file review petition under the section 105.”
In response to a question, Tajul said seeking mercy to President is a personal matter of the defendant Kamaruzzaman and he will take the decision in this regard.
A four-member SC bench of the Appellate Division led by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha upheld the death sentence of Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman awarded by ICT-2.
