DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque on Monday categorically said the death penalty to Muhammad Kamaruzzaman would be executed within 21-28 days.
The minister was talking to journalists at his Gulshan residence in the afternoon.
In response to a question, he said, “The verdict of death penalty will be executed soon if Kamaruzzaman does not file petition for mercy.”
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty to the Jamaat-e-Islami for one charge but commuted the highest penalty to life term imprisonment for another charge.
A four-member SC bench headed by Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha delivered the verdict in the morning for killing 164 people at Sohagpur village in Sherpur during the Liberation War in 1971.
