DHAKA: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman on Thursday categorically said the chain of command in police administration was collapsed.
“Some police personnel in a particular district are involved in anti-disciplinary activities that are tarnishing the image of the government,” he said.
The NHRC chief made the observation during his visit to Nafiz Salam (37) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after police shot him.
Dr Mizan said that police shot Nafiz from a short distance. A police member cannot shoot a citizen in this way.
There was no incident that compelled the police member to shoot for his safety. Besides, the police made Nafiz sit (on ground) and shot him.
The rights watchdog chief demanded the legal action against them who ordered to shoot.
On October 17, police shot Nafiz who attended a rally in Iqbal Road in city’s Mohammadpur area protesting Abdul Latif Siddique’s anti-religion remarks.
Moreover, police termed Nafiz a Hizbut Tahrir member to the media.
