Sea ports advised to show cautionary signal 1

DHAKA: The deep depression over westcentral Bay and adjoining eastcentral Bay moved slightly northwestwards over the same area.

It was centred at 06:00pm Thursday about 1,060 kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 990 kms south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 970 kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 955 kms south-southwest of Payra port.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, says Bangladesh Meteorological Department special bulletin.

According to the bulletin, maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts/squalls.

Sea will remain rough near the centre of the system, it added.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no One.

All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised to remain close to north Bay and not to venture into deep sea, the bulletin added.
