NETROKONA: A Netrokona court on Monday handed down life-term imprisonment to five people on charge of gouging out an eye of a school student and injuring his uncle.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default, rigorous imprisonment for more two years.
Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid passed the verdict at noon.
The judge also awarded Biplob, one of the condemned, to three more years of imprisonment and fined him Tk 5,000, in default, six months of rigorous imprisonment.
Public Prosecutor of the case Saiful Alam Pradip told banglanews the convict had a long standing clash with Hannan Khan, hailed from Satarasri village of Sadar upazila.
He further said, “On December 21, 2000, the condemned attacked Hannan Khan while he was returning from a cattle market.
Hannan’s nephew Rasel Khan, a student, came to save him when he shouted for help.”
One of the convicts Shafiqul Islam Shafiq gouged out an eye of Rasel Khan with a Chinese axe, he added.
On January 2, 2001, Hannan Khan’s brother Shamsuzzaman filed a law suit against five in this regard.
