DHAKA: The National Mausoleum-famed architect Syed Mainul Hossain passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun) at a city hospital on Monday. He was 62.
He was suffering from several diseases for a long time and passing his days in isolation.
Born on May 5 in 1952 in Dampara village in Munsiganj, the architect had earned fame in designing the National Mausoleum in Savar.
Mainul had also designed Uttara Model Town in city, IRDP Bhaban in city’s Karwan Bazar area, Vocational Teachers Training Institute and Vocational Training Institute, Bangladesh Bar Council building and Chittagong Export Processing Zone.
Besides, he also designed a good number of government and non-government buildings.
Different organizations expressed their profound shock in the departure of the eminent architect.
However, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep condolence and sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
