DHAKA: Special Correspondent Rafiqul Islam of Banglanews24.com, a leading online news portal of the country, got ‘DRU-Grameenphone Reporting Award-2014’ for his report on human rights in the online media category.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu handed over the award in city’s Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon on Monday afternoon.

Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present in the function as chief guest.

Prize owner Rafiqul said, “The Dhaka Reporters Unity authorities informed me about the award. They gave me the honor for a series report titled ‘Jele Jiboner Dukkhogatha’ (misery of fishermen life) published in renowned online news media banglanews24.com.”

In the report, Rafiqul described the misery of the people those live in costal regions of the country.

Jury board chairman Shajahan Sardar and representatives of Grameenphone Limited were among others present at the program.
