RANGPUR: The indefinite transport strike in Rangpur division, called by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation, has been halted for 72 hours till next Friday afternoon.
General secretary of the organization MA Mazid made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon considering the sufferings of JSC candidates and common people.
The strike in the division was enforced protesting vandalism at the house of its Rangpur divisional general secretary MA Mazid and beating up his parents.
However, earlier around 10:00pm on Monday, a group of miscreants chopped Juba League leader Imran who succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital around 6:30am on Tuesday.
Imran’s supporters blamed MA Mazid’s nephew Ashraful and his followers for the killing.
MA Mazid told banglanews that no member of Rangpur District Motor Sramik Union was involved in the murder of Juba League leader Imran.
He added: “Imran was killed in infighting but a vested quarter has been trying to blame the transport workers.”
He also demanded actions against the attackers by next 72-hour.
Otherwise, indefinite transport strike would be enforced across the northern parts of the country, he further forewarned.
