TANGAIL: A Tangail court on Wednesday awarded lifetime imprisonment to five people for killing a man in Nagarpur upazila of the district in 2009.

The convicts are Zakir Hossain and Ibrahim Khalil Khokon of Kalia village, Sarwar Hossain and Ebadat Ali of Choubaria and Shahinur of Keitar village. All are hailed from Nagarpur upazila.

Additional District Sessions Judge Court’s Judge Ehsanul Haque handed downed the order in the after noon.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the case statement, the convicts on September 21, 2009, killed Zahirul Islam, who used to earn his livelihood by running a motorbike on hire.

Later, police recovered the dead body from a paddy-field in Dashkia of Delduar.

Delduar Thana Sub-Inspector filed a murder case against the five men following an investigation.

Of the convicts, Shahinur is fugitive.
