80 Bangladeshi held in Malaysia

DHAKA: Malaysian police detained 80 Bangladeshi from a construction site in Cameron Highlands during two separate raids on two 'kongsi' houses in Tringkap and Blue Valley, Kampung Raja.

All the detainees are believed to be illegal immigrants, aged between 20 and 50. State-run news agency Bernama reports on Wednesday.

Cameron Highlands district police chief DSP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that they are believed to have overstayed in this country and were also found to be working at the construction site without valid permit and document.”

A team of 23 police personnel with three senior officers from the Cameron Highlands District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducts the raids from 6:30pm to 11:30pm on Tuesday local time.

Wan, however, confirmed that no undesired incidents occurred during the raids.
