DHAKA: Workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory staged a demonstration by blocking roads from Mirpur-1 to Technical intersection over due payment at Mirpur area in city Saturday morning.

Witnesses told banglanews that the incident took place around 10:00am as hundreds workers of Padma Garments of Mirpur-1 came out to the street demanding their dues.

At a stage the workers were locked into clashes with the police as the law enforcers protest the workers while throwing brick bats aiming neighbouring Vertex Fashion.

Police also fired tear-gas shells to disperse the rowdy workers, leaving a few workers injured, they added.

Vertex Fashion Manager Mosharraf told banglanews that the workers of Padma Garments asked their garments’ workers to join them but they denied. Then the Padma Garments’ workers tried to vandalize Vertex Fashios.

Assistant Police Commissioner of Mirpur Zone Sakhawat Hossain told banglanews that they have dispersed the workers from the road and the haulage is normal now.

We have deployed additional forces in front of both the factories, he added.
