2.5kg gold seized at Shahjalal

DHAKA: A man was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city on Saturday along with five gold bars, weighing 0.5kg.

Earlier in the morning, customs intelligence detained another man with 20 gold bars weighing 2kg from the airport.

However, the second detainee was Shaymal Paul, hailed from Cox’s Bazar.

Sources told banglanews that he landed Dhaka by an Air Arabia flight around 11:30am.

Confirming the matter, airport’s assistant revenue officer Mahabub-e-Khoda said that the gold bars, found with Shaymal, were hidden in his sock.

“Customs intelligence found the gold bars after checking the man over suspicion before leaving the airport,” he added.

Moreover, customs intelligence on Saturday morning detained a man with 20 gold bars weighing 2kg from the airport.

The detainee was Molla Hashem, who landed Dhaka by a Bangladesh Biman flight from Malaysia.

Confirming the matter, customs joint commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin told banglanews that the gold bars were found with Hashem.

“Customs intelligence found the gold after checking the man over suspicion in the morning,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, an Indian citizen was detained along with 3kg gold from this Airport.
