DHAKA: Humayun Sultan, son of former Awami League lawmaker Tipu Sultan, placed on 3-day remand in a case filed against him on allegation of killing wife doctor Mehjabin.
Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Anwar Sadat passed the order when police produced him before the court with 10-day remand plea on Sunday morning.
Earlier, Humayun was detained on Thursday as his wife died unnaturally on Thursday.
The victim’s father, a retired engineer Nurul Islam, filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Thana against Humayun, his father and mother also a physician Jiasmin Akhtar following the death.
Nurul Islam alleged that his daughter was beaten to death. However, Tipu Sultan’s family claimed that she had committed suicide.
Mehjabeen, at 2:30pm on the day, was rushed to Central Hospital in city’s Dhanmondi area where the on-duty doctor pronounced her dead.
It was claimed that the victim had committed suicide by wrapping ‘orna’ (a piece of cloth) around her neck at their house on Road 6 at Dhanmondi.
The deceased did her MBBS at city’s Holy Family Medical College, where her mother-in-law is a doctor.
