RAJSHAHI: Islamia College principal Humayan Ahmed was held and interrogated by Detective Branch (DB) of police on Sunday in connection with the killing of Professor AKM Shafiul Islam of sociology department of Rajshahi University.

DB Police on suspicion held Humayan Ahmed from Binodpur area of Rajshahi.

Earlier, he was accused of encouraging violent activities of Jamaat-Shibir activists.

Police sources said that they are trying to gather information for the killing case of the RU teacher.

Police also nabbed two more persons in this connection on Saturday.

Motihar Thana Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, miscreants chopped Shafiul Islam mercilessly in front of his residence in Chaddapai area of Rajshahi, adjacent to the university.

Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the same day.
