DHAKA: The government has given approval of the draft of ‘Bangladesh Haor and Water Bodies Development Board Act 2014’.

The approval came from a cabinet meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the disclosure while talking to journalists.

He told the journalists that there was a proposal that Haor-Wetland Development Board would be autonomous under water resources ministry.

But after extensive discussion, the cabinet said that it would work as a directorate attached with the ministry, the secretary added.

Musharraf Hossain also said the board was established by an executive order and its legal status was not defined.

The cabinet adopted a resolution congratulating Bangladesh Cricket team for recent victory over Zimbabwe in a three test match series at home, the newsmen were told.

He also said the cabinet also adopted obituary reference for two eminent citizens--Swadhinata Padak laureate Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui and Ekushey Padak laureate Syed Moinul Hossain-- passed away recently.
