10 engineers leave Biman

DHAKA: Ten engineers have left Biman Bangladesh Airlines at a time as the authorities neither increased their salaries nor gave any promotion.

Due to the resignation of the engineers, who had Basic licenses, engineering and material management wing, Biman faced a huge loss as they used to work swiftly if any jet faced problems, said concerned officials.

They also used to work for the maintenance of 777-300 ER Boeing of Biman, sources said.

Reliable sources said that the engineers have joined Qatar Airways and it will pay them 10 times more than Biman. Those engineers used to get Tk 30,000 (including overtime) whereas Qatar Airways will pay them Tk 300,000 per month.

Preferring anonymity, one of the officials of Biman told banglanews none of these engineers would have join Qatar Airways had they got promotions or salary raise in due time.

Around 50-60 engineers have left Biman in the last 10 years for inconsistency in pay rise and promotion, sources added.

The national carrier tried not to give them permit but all of them seek help of court in this regard. Later, court gave its verdict in favour of the engineers.

MM Asaduzzaman, Director of Biman’s Engineering & Material Management, told banglanews they promoted the engineers and raise salaries.

What we can do if they leave after all these, he added.

MM Asaduzzaman further said Biman have passed new rules emphasising the salary raise and promotion and this would stop the leaving.
