DHAKA: President M Abdul Hamid on Tuesday said there no alternative to make skilled engineers to face the challenge of the world.

“We have a lot of human resources and they can contribute to the national development if they can be skilled in information technology,” he said.

The President was addressing a program of the 4th convocation of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) at central playground of the university in the afternoon.

Abdul Hamid also told his audience that the government has formulated ‘ICT in education master-plan’ along with establishing science and technology universities in different districts.       

He also called for immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the killers of Rajshahi University teacher AKM Shafiul Islam. “I Have been saddened along with the whole nation by the incident,” he said. 

Expressing deep concern over the killing of the sociology professor, he prayed for the slain teacher and conveyed his sympathy to his bereaved family.

Professor Shafiul Islam, 48, was hacked to death by unknown assailants near his house in Choddopai area on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
