CHITTAGONG: Two separate cases have been filed with Patenga Thana early Wednesday against 98 Bangladeshis and Myanmarian, who were held along with 635 fortune seekers on Monday.
Executive Officer of BNS Durjoy Lieutenant Commander Mahbubur Rahman filed the cases under Human Trafficking Act and Foreigners Act.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of CMP Mostaq Ahmed told banglanews the detainees 98 were shown arrested in the two cases.
He further added the arrested will be produced before the court with a remand plea of 16 Bangladeshi citizens.
Duty Officer of Patenga Thana SI Golam Absar told banglanews the Navy handed over 592 victims, including 494 Bangladeshis, to the Thana on Tuesday night.
“The Bangladeshi victims were released at night,” he added.
Police sources said among the 82 Myanmarese, 11 were traffickers and the rest were fortune seekers.
On November 17 (Monday), Bangladesh Navy seized a Myanmar flag carrying trawler from the Bay near Saint Martins with at least 625 people on board in the deep see en route to Malaysia and Thailand illegally.
