11 remanded in RU teacher murder case

RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court Wednesday sent 11 persons on 2-day remand for police interrogation in Rajshahi University (RU) teacher professor AKM Shafiul Islam killing case.

The remanded people are-- Humayun Kabir, principle of Binodpur Islamia College adjacent to the Rajshahi University and a teacher of that college Fazlul Haque; Mosharraf Hossain, local paramedic of Choddapai area and residents of that area Abdullah Al Mahmud, Moshiur Rahman, Hasibur Rahman, Jinnat Ali, Saifuddin, Rezaul Karim, Sagor and Arif.

Chief metropolitan magistrate judge Sharmin Akhter passed the order in the morning when police produced them before the court with 10-day remand plea.

Miscreants on Saturday chopped RU Sociology teacher professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam to death in front of his residence in Choddapai area of Rajshahi.

Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan told banglanews that Shafiul, at that time, was on his way to home by a motorcycle.

Miscreants, somehow, intercepted his vehicle, indiscriminately stabbed on his neck and back with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him inured critically, he added.

Fatally injured Shafiul was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

Ansar al Islam has admitted the killing. The little known organization has taken the guilt within hours of Shafiul killed.
