DHAKA: The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mumbai Samina Naz sought kind assistance of Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, the new Governor of Maharashtra for further development of relations.
She came up with this assertion while paid a courtesy call on the new Governor of Maharashtra at his office at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Thursday.
Samina Naz sought further development of relations, especially with Mumbai, Maharashtra being the business capital of India, to explore and tap new potentials and avenues of economic cooperation, said a press release.
In addition, to enhancement of trade and economic opportunities, cooperation in the areas of education, IT, media and culture were also focus of the discussion by the Deputy High Commissioner.
The Deputy High Commissioner drew attention of the Honorable Governor for a visit to Bangladesh at his convenience to see and experience the opportunities that Bangladesh may offer in the trade, economic and other sectors.
The Governor expressed his satisfaction at the ongoing relations between the two countries.
He hoped that economic and trade relations would be further strengthened with Maharashtra following the presence of a new Bangladesh Mission in Mumbai.
Rao, wh assumed the Office of the Governor of the State of Maharashtra recently, is a veteran senior statesman earlier served as the Union State Minister for Home Affairs and as the State Minister for Commerce and Industry under the Vajpayee Government during 1999-2004.
Following the assumption of the new Government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the centre, Maharashtra also experienced new leadership at the Raj Bhavan.
The first courtesy meeting by the Deputy High Commissioner with the new Maharashtra Governor went on in very warm and cordial manner.
At the end of the meeting, the Governor was presented with two books on Bangladesh, a Nakshi Kantha tapestry and a Jamdani Saree as souvenirs of heritage and culture of Bangladesh.
